Wedding Cakes

Wedding Cakes
Wedding cake has its origins from a Roman wedding tradition of breaking a small loaf of bread over the bride's head for fertility. But today's tiered wedding cake has its origins from the Middle Ages. Guests would often bring small cakes that would be stacked on top of each other. The bride and groom would try and kiss over the top of the cakes without toppling them for luck and prosperity. In time, this wedding tradition would evolve and the cakes would all be covered with the same icing.

New Trends in Wedding Cakes
The round cakes are begin to give way for square cakes and stacked cakes are still very much in .
Flowers are being replaced by items such as sea, shells or stars, bows butterflies, beads and crystals depending on the theme of the wedding.
Unusual shapes have also become a favorite with brides
Hand printed/crafted cakes are fast becoming popular which most time takes the design from the wedding dress of the brides

Striped cakes
Less is more

Simple smooth surface cakes with little or nothing on it.

Flowers toppings and figurines which tried to make a come back are fast given into cake jewels and initials which are becoming popular by the day with modern brides.

Bolder colours are taking the centre stage now
Who would have thought of brown, red or yellow cakes years ago? It was unheard of most cakes were cream or white but now we have become bolder in our choices.
Fruit cakes have given way to more exciting flavours such as chocolate, red velvet, sponge, lemon etc

Used as centrepieces
In order to make sure all your guest have a piece of your wedding cake, you could make miniatures sizes of your wedding cake and use it as the centerpiece for table setting.

The guys are still ranting
1. We love how your make up artists make you look amazing on the D-day, it blows our minds but one thing darling 'after the wedding' - How far now?

2. After the wedding day, the same effort you made to loose weight to get into your wedding gown, make the same effort after the wedding day

3. You have planned the wedding, today is the D day - please can it be about us. Stop worrying about your friends and everyone else - Let us (You and I) enjoy ourselves in our own world

N.B We love you Nigerian babes too much

'after the wedding day, the same effort you made to loose weight to get into your wedding gown, make the same effort after the wedding day'

says the man whose six-pack gradually expands to become a 12-month old permanent pregnancy. At least the chicks can blame childbirth, what's THEIR excuse?

Ok, guys stop ur HARRASMENT now.
How far, didn't you see her before the wedding, makeup is not a miracle worker, it is only a cover up. If you saw this "glory" before the wedding, my dear do not be shocked, only thank God that we can look better, better yet, give us the 45,000 Naira on a weekly basis to get da hook up, y'know how we do.

Ok let me say wedding weight loss is mostly due to the stress of planning and forgetting to actually eat. Omo after the wedding, okan ti bale, we've caught the big fish so we can chillax. Besides all that making eba, iyan, amala & stuves sure can pack on the pounds, don't you think boo? We can go back to eating salads (and when we say we, we mean you too dumpling, for MORAL SUPPORT)& such and u'll definitely see dat wedding bod again, deal?

Now every woman knows dat ur main goal to have a smashing wedding is so dat people can TALK!!! So honey, we want to make sure dat we see all dem girls taking notes and such of how to TOP this here wedding, ok. We want Aunty mo, who herself is not technically married, but wants us all to know how she did it in her time, to see that TRUE LOVE does exist and you do not need to drop 4 pikins for a man, before he goes and "toro" you from your parents. So oblige us HONEY, this will be the one and only day in our lives that we are actually QUEEN, so we will see you after the wedding; honeymoon you can have us ALL to yourselves.

THANKS

I love the cakes. I cant stand the cakes at naija weddings that have like the stairs an all that stuff. I prefer a simple shape tiered cake with unusual wall paper like design, and a silver monogram or something on top.

At Bisi Dada, that is nice. It is funny how we the younger generation are going to school, getting advacnced degrees, then going out to do what we love. I guess such is life.
